Victories for Queens

Costa's Achievements for Our Community

Investing in Astoria Park

Historic $30 Million Capital Improvement

Improving Astoria Park will help the entire neighborhood. Costa was able to secure a $30 million investment for large-scale upgrades with significant public input. Funding will pay to redesign the track-and-field area, Charybdis Playground, and other important advances.

Better Health Care in Queens

New Stroke Center at Mt Sinai Queens

Costa secured funding for a new acute stroke center at Mt Sinai Queens. $1.8 million investment will help residents get emergency care closer to home. More than $5 million allocated for state-of-the-art upgrades including a robotic surgeon, a PET scan machine, and equipment for mammograms.

Improving Hallets Peninsula

New Ferry Service for Astoria

Costa worked with city agencies to ensure that citywide ferry service would be expanded to Astoria. The ferry, set to open in Astoria in August, will provide a sustainable and innovative source of transit to residents of Western Astoria. We secured $3 million in funding to upgrade Hallets Cove Playground, Whitey Ford Field, Astoria Houses basketball court, and upgraded lighting at Astoria Houses.

Keeping Astoria Clean

Sidewalk Cleaning & Graffiti Removal Services

A top priority for Costa has been to keep our neighborhood clean. He allocated discretionary funding for sidewalk sweeping and garbage pickups throughout Astoria including 30th Ave, Steinway St, Hoyt Ave, Ditmars Blvd, and Shore Blvd.

A Greener and Cleaner City

Fighting Climate Change Locally

As the chair of Environmental Protection, Costa has been at the forefront of making our city more sustainable. We secured funding for solar panels at PS 122 and Queens Library Steinway branch. These investments will decrease emissions and combat climate change. Costa also spearheaded legislation to reduce NYC emissions by 80% by 2050, a historic commitment to our planet.

Supporting Our Seniors

Funding Vital Services in Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities

Costa designated funding HANAC, Catholic Charities, Queensview, and other providers of services for Seniors. Costa voted to increase funds for Meals-on-Wheels and home-care services.
